Welcome to Girl Scouts of Orange County Troop 2898! We're so glad you found us!

We're a multi-level troop with girls ranging in age from Kindergarten through 9th grade. We meet in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and our members come from there and the surrounding communities.

We are SUPER-ACTIVE and BUSY! Our Daisy and Brownie troops meet every other Sunday (usually the first and third Sundays of the month) and Juniors and Cadettes meet every Sunday. Year round, you may find us working on badges, doing community service projects, or camping.

If you're interested in joining our exciting group, click on the Contact Us link and request more information. We look forward to hearing from you!

Posted on Mar 3 2021 - 11:48am

The campout is this weekend and the Cadettes have planned out all of the fun!  Please sign up for the campout on this link: CAMPOUT

  • We will start on Saturday with a hike in the morning.  You and your family go for a hike - around the neighborhood or in the mountains, whatever makes sense!
  • Participate in cupcake wars - make cupcakes that follow our International Theme and you might win the title of Cupcake Champion!
  • We'll gather as a troop after Lunch AT 2:00 for our activities - but if you do a hike in the morning please plan on sharing pictures with everyone!
  • If you want to tell a joke or record a skit to show at our evening campfire program, we would love to have those!
  • At night you'll sleep in a tent in your backyard or in a blanket fort you make in your house. Decorate your tent or fort - Be creative!  We want to see your amazing decor!
  • We will gather together as a troop on Sunday at our normal troop meeting time to talk about the day and how much fun we had.

Hope to see you at the Great International Backyard Campout!

Pinewood Derby - The Last Great Race - Sunday March 21st

Posted on Mar 3 2021 - 11:48am

Hey folks we are doing a Pinewood Derby this year, and we've invited some local girl scouts to join us.  As of Wednesday morning, 3/3 we have 43 girls signed up to participate!

This event is free for everyone in Troop 2898!  We are looking at doing preliminary rounds in the early afternoon LIVE and in person in small groups. If you can't make it in person for the preliminary rounds, you can still race your car - just make sure to turn it in to Mr Dave on time! Then our finals will be on zoom, later in the afternoon. You will have a great time, and get a chance to be very creative on building and painting your amazing cars!

Adults and Siblings can participate - cost is $5 to cover the cost of the car kit.

How to be a part of this awesome event:

  • Sign up here and come get a car kit!!!  SIGNUP
  • Design and build your car however you want, keeping to the rules:
    • No longer than the block of wood
    • Do not narrow the wheel base
    • Less than 142 grams (five ounces)
    • Only dry powder lubricants on the axles
  • Deliver your car to Mr Dave on Saturday, March 20th in the afternoon.

Any questions? Contact Mr Dave for information...

Cadette Meeting 2/21 Wrap-up: Thinking Day

Posted on Mar 3 2021 - 11:41am

Cadettes, here is a reminder....

We had a great meeting two weeks ago and you have HOMEWORK to get your badge done.  Here's what you need to do:

  1. Research a female peace activist and Be Prepared to tell the group about her at our next meeting
  2. Here is our Peace Pledge from the weekend. Please let Mr Dave know how you fill in the blank:
    • I am a PeaceBuilder because there are problems in this world that need solutions
    • I am making this peace pledge to ______________________________________
    • I believe we should have a focus on the environment and on human rights for all people
    • I want to help make a difference for peace by educating others on the environment and on how to respect the rights and dignity of all people
    • It's important to respect and listen to others because their different ideas, combined with mine, make the world a better place
    • I pledge to be a PeaceBuilder every day in my home, school, community and the world.

Additionally, I have loaded the requirements for the 2020 and 2019 WTD international badges on the troop website. Go to the Cadette section here: BADGES, and look for the WTD badge books. If you do the requirements on your own, I will give you the badge to complete your three-badge set!

Daisy Brownie Meeting Wrap Up for Sun Feb 21st

Posted on Feb 21 2021 - 4:54pm
Greetings Girl Scout Daisies and Brownies!
Today's meeting, we've discussed that the Philanthropy Badge will be focusing on helping Animals! We will see which group we can assist in purchasing items with our Cookie money, this Spring/Summer!
On March 21st is our Annual Rancho Trabuco Service Unit Pinewood Derby Race! The Juniors (4th & 5th Graders) of Troop 2898 will be hosting the event, and they have chosen the theme of "Iditarod Dog Sled Races"! I have added a youtube link (on the email also sent today) to a story from the sled dogs point of view, as well as a link to a quick history rundown on the Iditarod Race in Alaska. More information to come on picking up your cars.
In April, our Service Unit will be participating in an "Ephemeral Nature Art" event. More info to come, but I have emailed a PDF with ideas, for your Scouts to brainstorm!
Please, have your scout prepare 2 sketches of their Pinewood Derby Car and Nature Art, for the March 7th Zoom Meeting! We will see if Council will allow us to meet in person, for the March 21st Pinewood Derby Races! If not, it will be held on Zoom!
Thank you & have a great weekend!
